The Brembo radial master cylinder with 6 different brake modulation options.
The 19RCS CORSA CORTA is characterised by the fact that the driver has the option of adjusting the ‘braking point’ to suit the desired driving feel. Added to this is the RCS (Ratio Click System), which was introduced 10 years ago in Brembo's 19RCS radial master cylinder and can be used to adjust the axle distance of the master cylinder to ‘18’ or ‘20’.
The careful study to improve the brake booster has allowed Brembo to offer three brake boosters in one and to further improve the performance of the braking system. Furthermore, the combination of the 18-20’ centre distance and the three maps – R, S, N – allows for no fewer than 6 different combinations.
The driver can use the selector switch to choose between the three different maps available.
With the Normal setting, the pressure point is set to ensure a smoother initial phase, making it suitable for driving in the city or braking in poor grip conditions.
In the Sport mode, the position of the pressure point is selected so that the initial phase is shortened compared to the N setting. This second characteristic enables a more dynamic response and a sportier driving style. Finally, the eccentric device on the Race map allows a further reduction in the initial phase, bringing it to a minimum value at the level of the master cylinders used in MotoGP: this allows the driver to reach the braking point at lightning-fast speeds.
This third map is ideal for a racing style that saves precious hundredths of a second under braking. The RCS (Ratio Click System), on the other hand, moves the distance between the fulcrum and the point of application on the push rod of the master cylinder by 2 millimetres: This results in a different distribution of the braking force, without changing the pure power. The master cylinder body is made of a forged aluminium alloy, machined with 5-axis CAM technology.
A hard oxide coating is used for the surface treatment, which ensures a high level of wear resistance for the master cylinder's main body and easy movement of its components. The floating piston and seals come directly from MotoGP, as do the housings for the ventilation and fuel systems, which are inclined at more than 30° to facilitate ventilation of the master cylinder.
The design of the 19RCS CORSA CORTA was preceded by a study to unify the design of all the components of the master cylinder, which now has a distinctive, dynamic and sporty look, in line with the style of the motorcycles for which it was designed (the model or design was submitted at the same time as the patent application for the technological solution).
The lever assembly can be replaced without dismantling the RCS (Ratio Click System) system from the master cylinder, thus allowing the calibrations made during the installation phase to be retained unchanged.
